Taiwan’s EVA Airways Corp. is the third safest carrier worldwide, according to Germany-based aviation safety ranking website AERO International Jan. 16.
EVA trailed only Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. and Emirates in the annual survey of 60 major airlines based on analyses conducted by Germany’s Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Center. Finishing among the top 10 seven times since 2004, the carrier improved from fifth last year on the strength of a no flight losses or fatalities record since first taking to the skies in 1989.
EVA Chairman Chang Kuo-wei said recognition by the respected publication underscores the company’s outstanding performance and highlights the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s aviation industry.
“Safety is the most important part of every EVA flight, as our quality services would not be possible without full attention to every aspect of operations.
“Our third-place ranking is only a small fraction below assessments for the older, larger carriers that ranked first and second. This is exhilarating for us and makes our 25th anniversary milestone even more meaningful,” he added.
Chang said EVA has also demonstrated zero-defects in the biennial Operational Safety Audits by the International Air Transport Association since 2005.
Earlier the month, EVA was rated one of the world’s top 10 safest full-service airlines for the first time by Australia-based Airline Ratings. And last December, it was named the seventh best carrier by the same aviation safety website. (SFC-JSM)
